Yay for you! Your good fortune and attentive play wins you a fantastic prize. But more on that below.
First lets take a moment to reflect on this week which is vaguely represented in the content of QandA Bingo's game cards. Or not - you can just skip to the prize if your time is short.
This week had a range of sideshow attractions in the public debate, from Very Fast Trains to Rainbow Crossings, and from the 'invasion' of Geraldton to the demise of a British PM and her impressively polarised regard amongst the public. But the highlights of the political week, if that seems a fair descriptor, were the release of a major policy each from the two major parties.
The release of the coalition's 'NBN Light' alternative to the Government's NBN, with much fanfare brought us an introduction to "Mr Broadband" himself. The ensuing debate was sadly dominated by all too much chatter regarding which approach was cheaper, or which could download a movie fastest, and other such trivial aspects. And all too little focus on the FACT that the country just needs a new telecom network that serves the country's needs, rather than a bandaid on the old one that is in rapid decline. Big picture stuff over point scoring.
In the past couple of days we have been provided at last with the gory details of the ineptly unnamed 'Gonski' plan, which seems to have also scored a name along with its release - "Better Schools". Though the jury is still out on whether that name will stick. As to the detail itself, mostly people seem to approve, other than the coalition's mouthpieces of course, whose job it is to hate on anything the Government says, so really their views on the matter seem null and void. The days and weeks ahead will reveal whether the policy becomes reality. Again, let's hope big picture stuff wins over point scoring.
Did QandA raise the level of debate on these (or other) pressing matters? It seems doubtful. But as long as we have some fun along the way, it wasn't a total waste of time. Now ...
